Why Naturopathic Care?

Dr. Amy Henehan, Naturopathic  Doctor & Acupuncture Provider

Dr. Amy Henehan BA, ND
Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine & Acupuncture Provider

Dr. Amy Henehan’s interest in practicing medicine was first sparked as a teenager when she herself became a patient of a Naturopathic Doctor. Her passion grew as she continued to witness firsthand the healing that Naturopathic Medicine offers, and she walked away from the experience not only having resolved her symptoms, but also with a new life goal – to become a Naturopathic Doctor in order to empower others with the knowledge necessary to gain control over their own long-term wellness.

Her professional pursuits began with the completion of her undergraduate studies at York University, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Dr. Henehan then went on to complete an intensive 4-year post-graduate program at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM), where she earned her Doctor of Naturopathy Degree.  Her studies have taught her that good medicine does more than simply mask symptoms. Rather, it is important to first understand why symptoms have occurred, and to consider the entirety of a patient’s being–including mental, emotional and physical–in order to identify the root cause. Ultimately, the aim is to gently bring the body’s systems back into proper functioning, so the individual can achieve optimal health and improved quality of living.

While Dr. Henehan holds a general family practice, she has a special interest in weight loss, digestive health, fertility, women’s health and hormonal balancing. Her treatment plans often incorporate clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, acupuncture & cupping, as well as stress management techniques.

Naturopathic Medicine uses a combination of scientifically validated and traditional medicine to treat concerns including digestion, sleep, mood regulation, hormonal imbalance, energy/fatigue, cardiovascular health, immune health, etc.
